Brilliant for cooking Welsh cakes and pancakes
The media could not be loaded. Most of my comments about this Lodge Logic Round Griddle are contained in the accompanying video review, however I have briefly summarised them below.THINGS THAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS CAST IRON GRIDDLE:* No non stick Teflon coating which can get damaged over time and get into your food* It really does seem to make a difference to the taste of things like Welsh cakes - they don't seem to taste the same made in a Teflon coated frying pan* It heats up really quickly* It comes pre-seasoned to start you off with the seasoning process* The build quality is superb. It is solid, well made and should last me a lifetime* I don't have to worry about using metal implements in it - they won't damage the surface as they would with a non stick Teflon panTHINGS THAT I WASN'T SO KEEN ON:* It is extremely heavy! I have fairly weak wrists and I often have to use two hands to pick it up from the stove* It gets unbelievably hot and stays hot for ages. You need to leave it on the cooker to cool down before you can wash it up. Then handle also gets incredibly hot, you MUST use oven gloves to pick it up or you will really burn your hands.* You can't use soap of any form on it to clean it. It gets hot really quickly and I have burned things on it. The temptation is very great to get a bowl of hot soapy water to scrub it - but I have to stop myself* It does need to be seasoned every time I use it - but that is not a fault with this particular item, it would be the same for all cast iron pansMY OVERALL CONCLUSION:This is a really sturdy, good quality piece of cooking equipment. I wouldn't use it for every day cooking but for certain things such as pancakes, Welsh cakes, omelettes etc. it does a great job. It does take a bit more looking after than your standard frying pan but it is worth the effort as it will last a lifetime and not need to be replaced every couple of years.

The best Griddle on Induction
I don’t usually write reviews, but this pan works absolutely brilliantly on an induction hob. I’ve tried many pans, but this is by far the best I’ve ever come across for induction cooking. If it performs this well on induction, I’ve no doubt it’ll work just as well on other types of hob too.The base of the pan is very flat, although there is a slight indentation where the logo is stamped. That said, it still works perfectly well on induction, so it’s not an issue at all.Just a word of advice, this is not a non-stick pan, so there are a few things to keep in mind:Although it comes pre-seasoned, it does need a bit of use to build up the seasoning properly. I started off by frying some sliced onions in avocado oil.Make sure whatever you’re cooking, batter or otherwise, make sure it isin't straight from the fridge. If it’s too cold, it’s more likely to stick.Temperature control is key. If the pan gets too hot, food is more likely to stick.I’ve tried various batter-based dishes like pancakes, crêpes, and dosa etc, and they’ve all turned out beautifully.

Strong, durable - although would season on first use
Having a range of cast iron pans, I was keen to add this to the collection for pizzas, pancakes, tortillas and other flat related items. The handle is a good length, and with any cast iron pan, it's weighty! It seems to have good cooking distribution, and is very versatile. Have yet to seen it's rust resistance but imagine it will cope well if treated properly. Only downside is that I don't trust the pre-seasoned, so would recommend a season before first use!

As Good As Cast Iron Cooking Gets
Item received promptly and well packaged. As many will know Lodge are up there with the best in cast iron cookery and this pan is no different. Great size for crepes, pancakes and also serves as a great sheet for baking scones etc. Comes pre-seasoned but worth seasoning further to ensure better protection. Pretty heavy and takes a little bit longer to preheat but well worth the extra money for Lodge over the cheaper brands. Well recommended, will last for years to come.

Pre-seasoning works, very sturdy
Lodge is well renowned and for good reason. This pan is ideal for pancakes or breads and gets to heat quickly on a gas hob or on the BBQ grill, and takes the high heat with no problem. The build quality is excellent as a single piece of cast iron. The pre-seasoning works well but it does require care and re-oiling to keep the non-stick. So far it has produced fairly even cooking on wet pancake batter and sticky flatbread dough without any residue or carbonisation. Also worked very well for smashburgers over the Weber bbq. This is a great replacement for a thinner non stick Tefal pan or the like with teflon, and just as easy to use. The main benefit over a non-stick coated pan is you can get it to a very high heat and use metal utensils on it, which is good for something like a burger where you want to make sure you scrape up everything with a sharper edge and want a very hot surface to get a sear. The lower lip on the pan also mean it is easier to use a spatula to get underneath things for flipping etc.
