The unit needs to be redesigned
I installed the renogy 40 amp dc/dc charger on my sailboat. The purpose was to use a standard alternator to charge both the start and house (lithium) batteries. The small blue ignition wire does not have to be installed. I have not been able to find out from Renogy the purpose of this wire. The charger draws its power from the start batteryThe specs from renogy do not tell you that even when the engine is not running the charger will continue to draw from the start battery. The charger will draw your start battery down to 11.2 volts before separating the two banksAn additional breaker or relay is needed to prevent the start battery from being drawn downI regret buying this charger. It is not defective. Per Renogy the charger was designed to draw down your start battery

Don't think it's worth the Price seeing it failed within two months!
Doesn't seem to work properly. I can only get 8 amps out of the advertised 40 amp on the DC to DC side and 2 amp out of the solar side (MPPT) with a 100w panel. When using the DC to DC side the with the recommended 8awg wire solid copper core. The wiring from the junction block to the charger and to the lithium battery gets HOT! I have contacted the Manufacturer for a warranty replacement with no reply as of yet. I will update as soon as I get a reply. Note all connections are soldered with heat shrink. Wiring from alternator to the junction block is 2 gauge solid copper core wires with soldered terminals.

No power came out of it
Chargers are supposed to charge. I had it connected to a LiFePo4 battery as the power source with the input wires but no power came out the clearly labeled output wires. The power light and LiFePo4 battery lights were on. I just did a major upgrade to our camper van's house electrical system including Victron DC to DC and 120v shore power to 12v house battery chargers and everything works great. I contacted Renogy support and it was worthless. Returned to Amazon. This is a new product at the time of this review and this is the first review. I really like this charger's features but need to move on.

Don’t buy from Renogy!
Equipment has known issues that Renogy fails to report to consumers until you report it to them. Then you have to live without the equipment altogether to send it back to them, wait for them to process it, and eventually send you another one (that might not be fully functional either.) Or you have to live with a partially functional piece of junk. What wonderful choices with these kinds of prices tags! Both online ordering through the Renogy website and ordering through a salesperson over the phone say your item will be shipped via a specific shipping service. This is information is vital to the traveling communities that buy this type of equipment and don’t have a home address in their current area. If you say you’re going to deliver my order via UPS ground, I have to choose a UPS location to receive my package. If you say you’re going to deliver via UPS and then deliver via any other method, like FedEx or USPS, I won’t receive my package. Then I can have to wait for it to be returned to sender, processed for 10 days, and reshipped. Or I can refund my order (which takes 7-10 days) and buy the items through a new order so that it can be delivered in a more reasonable amount of time. The items are no longer on sale or course. And the nonsense goes on.Your call center is shamelessly useless.Sorry for trying to spend so much money on your expensive equipment so that I can have electricity in the winter. That was my bad.
